Click on the title above to read about salamanders with deformities. Why do scientists think these specific animals are showing a higher rate of deformation?

rates have been higher for deformaton of salamanders, frogs and other amphibians for a few possible causes:parasites or pollution that permeate their skin. inbreeding was ruled out.

Scientists have considered inbreeding and the salamander's genetic background but they have declined these theories. They don't know what is causeing the deformations but they are still researching.

The deformation of a salamander is being studied, but scientist have proved inbreeding to have nothing to do with it. Two possible reasons they are researching on are parasites and pollution.
