Gustav

Click the title above to view an article written about Hurricane Gustav. With our state being a major target, we are trying to reduce the destruction. Many people are comparing Gustav to Katrina that hit just 3 years ago. How do they compare? How do they differ? What are the major economic concerns we may face after the hurricane?

Gustav was a really bad hurricane but we were more prepared! the southern part of our state had a manditory evacuation where in katrina we didnt and the levees broke. gustave had people putting more support on the levees so they wouldnt collapse so easily. of course they both did horrible damage. the flooding was terrible and that made economic promblems for the farmers who sent crops throughout the country.

gustav was a bigger hurricane to me.this time they had an evacuation that made everyone leave. when catrina hit the leavies broke and that did most of the dammadge. we reinforced the leavy this time and it did not brake so i was told. catrina was a more tight huricane than gustav. all the crops that the farmers grew where distroyed and gas went up so enconimy went down

Hurricane Gustav, since it was after Katrina, used the lessons from Katrina to evacuate the people along the coast before it came onshore. Gustav also took a different path through Louisiana and wasn't as strong as Katrina when it hit. It wasn't as costly as Katrina because it didn't hit New Orleans where all the people and businesses were.

Katrina and Gustav were both really bad hurricanes that both did some damage to our state. They both flooded and ruind crops and devistated people in southern Louisiana. Although this time around we were much more prepared. We improved our levee systems and evacuated most of south louisiana. One of the major economic concerns was the oil and natural gas componies that had to stop drilling because of the hurricanes which made gas prices go up.

Katrina hit hard on southern Louisiana. It caused the levees to break and many people died. Since Katrina, we rebuilt the levees stronger, and when Gustav came through, southern Louisiana was evacuated. The biggest difference was in preperation. The damages were both bad, but Katrina definately beat Gustav. Getting to oil and gas is one of the biggest concerns after a hurricane.
