The shoulder injuries could result from pitching on a mound. The researchers found that when you stand a ten inch mound youre at more of a risk at getting a hurt shoulder. It is better to pictch on a flat ground. They are wondering if that is because your foot lands on the flat ground first than the slope!!! They havent found enough evidence that they would need to change the mound but are suggesting that trainers who have an injured player should rehabilitate them when they pitch on flat ground!!!

The Milwaukee Brewers conducted a test for shoulder strain. In this test, they had four mounds at different heights: 10-in, 8-in, 6-in, and on flatground. The stress was the highest at 10-in and got lower as you got closer to flatground. Even with this, they did not have enough reason to submit a standard mound height change to the MLB (Major League Basesball) directors.

A recent study showed how the heighth of a pitching mound can effect shoulder strains. The experiment consisted of using mounds at various heighths, including flat ground, to see amount of force and torque generated at the shoulder and elbow when pitchers pitch. According to the study, heigher mounds generally caused greater stress to the shoulder and inconsistant throwing style. The study didn't provide enough information to change regulation 10inch mounds, but it will provide trainers with information on whether to train on flat ground or higher mounds, especially with injured players.

sarah dulaney if you really want to know what i think about this is that people have way to much time own their hands and so what if you get hurt go cry in a coner get back up and play some more but if you don' want to get hurt then make the stupid hill flat and stop your whining. sorry i just had to let that out now lets start over you get more injuries when the mound is higher than ground leavel.so there is my answer.

The test was to see if the height of the pitcher's mound had anything to do with the stress put on the pitcher. The test was done on pitching mounds 10-inches high, 8-inches high, 6-inches high and flat ground. The study found that the higher the pitching mound the more stress put on certain parts of the pither. They are not changing the height of the mound, this was just a study.

Nothing about this article surprizes me at all because ehen we lived in Kentucky, my dad was the team doctor for Eastern Kentucky University. He would have to go tho all of the baseball games and would alway have injuries. Most of the injuries would come from pichers that had hurt thier shoulder while they were playing. The picher always thought he had just thown the the ball the wrong way and wrenched his shoulder. Now that I've read this articl eit makes a lot of sense why so many of the pichers were tearing thier rotator cuffs of straining thier labrum. The stess being off ground was just too much for the shoulder to handle. A lot o fthe pichers, after they had surgery and rehabilitated, would start out by piching on flat ground instead of the coach letting them start playing again right away.

researchers say that pitching off the mound hurts your shoulder more than pitching of of flat ground. they think this because of the slope of the mound.
